Grindrod Limited Announces the Appointment of a CEO for Its Rail Division

Grindrod Limited, a JSE-listed freight and logistics company, announced today that Johny Smith had been appointed Chief Executive Officer of its rail division, Grindrod Rail, effective 1 April 2023.

Mr. Smith’s experience in rail operations and the Walvis Bay Corridor, where he and his team achieved incredible success, will contribute to the growth of Grindrod’s footprint in Namibia and unlock growth opportunities for its Terminals and Ships Agency businesses. Grindrod’s rail-based logistics solutions will assist landlocked countries in becoming port-linked.

Mr. Smith brings to Grindrod more than 30 years of experience in organisational and strategy development, international business, sales, marketing, project management, financial management, and customer and relationship management.

Prior to joining Grindrod, Mr. Smith was the CEO of TransNamib and the CEO of the Walvis Bay Corridor Group. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and an MBA, has served on various boards, and has received notable career achievement awards.
