TRC Director General Presents SGR Operations to the Board of Directors of Uganda Railways Corporation (URC)

The Director General of Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC), Mr. Masanja Kadogosa, has presented a report on the implementation of Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) operations to the Board of Directors of Uganda Railways Corporation (URC), who visited TRC headquarters with the aim of witnessing and learning how TRC has successfully transformed the railway transport sector, particularly through the electric train (SGR) project.

This is not the first time for the URC Board of Directors to visit TRC, as in January 2023, the board visited the corporation for the purpose of experience sharing. Two years later, they have returned to observe the ongoing operations of the SGR.

The URC Board of Directors is led by its Chairperson, Hon. Dhakaba Wangubo Abdallatif, together with the Managing Director of URC, Mr. Benon M. Kajuna. During this visit, the board is expected to learn how Tanzania has successfully implemented the SGR project while still managing operations of the old Meter Gauge Railway (MGR).

It is worth noting that in October 2024, the Government of Uganda signed a 48-month agreement with Yapi Merkezi for the implementation of a 272-kilometre SGR project from Malaba to Kampala, at a cost of 2.7 billion Euros.
