Moroni Terminal Launches Expansion Studies for the Large Wharf of the Port of the Union of the Comoros

Moroni Terminal, handler of the port of Moroni, officially launched on March 22, 2023 the studies for the project to expand the large quay of the port of Moroni.

The studies that are being carried out with the help of the specialized international firm, Arcadis, relate to the expansion of the port quay. They will make it possible to determine the precise nature of the work to be carried out for this structuring project for the country’s economy. Launched for a period of six months, these studies are supervised by the Government through the supervisory ministries, particularly the Ministry of maritime and air transport with the support of the directorates of maritime and port authorities, regional planning and national laboratory of public works.

The launch of these studies is part of the commitments made by Moroni Terminal, as part of the amendment to the concession agreement signed in June 2022 with the Union of the Comoros. This amendment provides for an investment plan to modernize the infrastructure and equipment of the Terminal, the ambition being to provide the country with a competitive logistics infrastructure capable of ensuring the supply of Grande Comore.

“We are convinced that this study will make it possible to launch an ambitious project for the economy of the Union of the Comoros with the help of donors. Indeed, the expansion of the port of Moroni will have a significant impact on the local economy by stimulating the growth of local industries, a source of many job opportunities. We are committed to working closely with stakeholders to complete this major project. » underlined Didier Vandenbon, General Manager of Moroni Terminal.

In this sense, Moroni Terminal will welcome for the first time next April a ship from the world’s leading shipowner MSC, the MSC Alba F. This new service will thus contribute to improving the productivity of the port of Moroni thanks to a fortnightly service.
