European Union Pledges Continued Support to Zambia

European Union Ambassador to Zambia Karolina Stasiak, recently disclosed that the European Union has secured €153 million in development support for Zambia for the period 2025 to 2027.

Ambassador Karolina Stasiak made the announcement when she paid a courtesy call on the Right Honourable Ms Nelly B. K. Mutti, SC, MP, FAPRA, Speaker of the National Assembly, on 20 March 2025 at Parliament, assuring the Speaker of the European Union’s continued support to the legislative wing of government.

Ambassador Stasiak said that despite a leadership change at the European Union in Brussels, the priorities remained focused on attracting investment and sustainable development.

She stated that the funding envelope of €153 million secured for the 2025–2027 period would be directed towards recapitalising Zambia Railways and the Lobito Corridor, as well as enhancing energy provision, including equipping water utilities with solar energy and democratic governance.

The Ambassador said that the partnership between the EU and Zambia was based on shared values of democracy, human rights and freedoms, adding that Zambia’s governance and democracy were critical, as there is a correlation between democratic governance and economic development.

She further noted that geopolitical challenges, including the Russia–Ukraine conflict, had not hindered the EU’s commitment to Zambia.
