Zimbabwe Leverages Global Best Practice to Increase Export Revenues by Reducing Hazardous and Substandard Imported Goods
- This the Ministry of Industry and Commerce has achieved by providing conformity assessment services.
- This follows signing an agreement with Bureau Veritas, a world leader in laboratory testing, inspection, and certification services.
- The agreement on delivering Consignment Based Conformity Assessment (CBCA) programmes covers general goods & consolidated cargo as well as used vehicles and used spare parts.
Harare Zimbabwe – 19 October 2023 –Bureau Veritas a leading global inspection, certification and testing company concluded training workshops promoting Zimbabwe’s consignment-based conformity assessment program and trade facilitation for business stakeholders in Zimbabwe.
The workshop which brought together over 150 private and public sector leaders was aimed at sharing the successful milestones of the implementation of the CBCA program and train stakeholders on its implementation.
Amongst the stakeholders represented were the government (the ministry of industry and commerce), South Africa (the South African Ambassador to Zimbabwe Her Excellency Rejoice Mabudhafhadi), the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, the consumer council of Zimbabwe, shipping and freight forwarding agents and the consumer council of Zimbabwe.
All in attendance benefited from the presentation of the ongoing Zimbabwe CBCA programme and how all stakeholders collaborated to make it a success.
“The success can be attributed to the execution of a robust change management programme aimed at creating awareness of the programme and its benefits. To date the benefits have been enjoyed by big business and consumers alike. This means that we can confidently say we are achieving the purpose for which this project was create i.e., to protect the local industry and the end user of al products sold in the market,” shared Tendai Malunga – Zimbabwe and Botswana Contracts Manager at Bureau Veritas.
He further congratulated the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority for successfully implementing this project.
“Zimbabwe’s successful implementation of this project is a milestone that must be used as a case study and an example to emulate by SADC member countries.
This will ensure alignment in how the region tackles the challenge of substandard goods being dumped in the region,” – said Mervin Kamotie, Director of Government Services in Southern Africa at Bureau Veritas.
