Zanzibar Railways to Make Shipping Easy
The Secretary General of the Ministry of Construction and Transport (Transport) Gabriel Migire has asked the Tanzania Railway Corporation (TRC) to cooperate closely with the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Communications in Zanzibar to ensure that the railway to be built in the islands has standards and meets expectations.
The railway that is expected to be built in the areas of Bububu, Mangapwani, Makobe, Bandaa kuu, Matemwe, Pwani, Mchangani, Kiwengwa to Pongwe aims to facilitate the activities of passenger and cargo transportation and tourism from the port to various areas of the city.
Speaking in Arusha while closing the meeting that brought together leaders of the transport sector and its institutions from mainland Tanzania and leaders and experts of the ministry from the islands of Zanzibar, Secretary General Migire said that the objectives of changing the experience include participating in the implementation, management and operation of projects Transportation.
“It is true that due to the increase in population in the Zanzibar Islands, the Ministry of Construction and Transport from Mainland Tanzania and from Zanzibar should cooperate to ensure that transportation challenges are met in order to further shape transportation activities,” said Migire.
Secretary General Migire added that all the Government Projects of Mainland Tanzania and the Islands that are implemented if completed with standards and quality will contribute to the ease of transportation prices, but also the price of products to be user-friendly.
For his part, the Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Construction, Communications and Transport from Zanzibar Shomari Omari Shomari has thanked the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania through the TRC because through their experience in construction and operation of roads, it will help the Ministry to manage and run the projects efficiently. .
“Despite not having an organization that manages and runs the railway in our islands, we have started preparations for the construction of the railway and we believe that the cooperation we will get through TRC will help us more in construction and operation” said Deputy Secretary General Shomari.
In terms of Air Travel, the Director of Tanzania Airlines (ATCL), Engineer Ladislaus Matindi has said that the Government through Air Tanzania is in the final stages of completing procedures to start flights from Dar es Salaam to Unguja and Pemba.
The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar have been bringing together their leaders and experts four times a year with the aim of sharing experience in the operation of the sub-sectors of Water, Air, Rail and Port Transport.
