Zambia Officially Becomes the 7th Member State of the Central Corridor

Kinshasa, DR Congo – October 8, 2024 – The Republic of Zambia has officially became the seventh member state of the Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency (CCTTFA), the meeting included the physical participation of the Republic of Zambia, the Republic of Malawi and the Democratic Republic of Congo, with virtual attendance by other Member States. This crucial development occurred during the CCTTFA extraordinary Council of Ministers Meeting, marking a significant milestone in the agency’s mission to strengthen economic activities along the corridor by simplifying customs procedures, which include reduced transit times, and lower transportation costs.

The Central Corridor, a vital trade route connecting the landlocked countries to the Indian Ocean, has seen a surge in economic importance in recent years. By joining the CCTTFA, Zambia has formally integrated its transport infrastructure with the existing corridor, paving the way for enhanced trade flows and economic development.

The inclusion of Zambia is expected to further strengthen the Central Corridor’s position as a preferred trade route for regional and international commerce. It will also contribute to the overall economic growth and prosperity in the region.
