Update Following the Landslide Affecting the Transgabonais Railway Line

Clearing work following the landslide that swept away 500 m of railway is continuing thanks to the mobilization of Setrag teams and the support of the Gabonese State. At the same time, the company is working to provide solutions to supply isolated provinces.

The four employees of Setrag and Comilog who were present in the derailed train following the assignment of the track were quickly taken care of.

3 employees, including 2 from Setrag and 1 from Comilog, returned to their homes after medical observation and resumed their service.

Comilog’s fourth colleague is recovering in good health over the days after the treatment received at the hospital.

About 300,000 m3 of earth have already been removed. The site is being carried out by Setrag as well as by Comilog under the supervision of the Gabonese State. Colossal work has been undertaken, mobilizing around twenty machines and more than 150 agents to clear the ground and rebuild the affected section of track.

Work is progressing according to the schedule shared with the authorities. The gradual resumption of traffic will take place in the second half of January; the actual restart date will be specified in the coming days.

The interruption of the railway line between the station of Offoué and Boué penalizes the economic life of several Gabonese provinces. In consultation with the Gabonese authorities, Setrag has put in place an emergency transport plan for basic necessities and essential goods.

Setrag would like to warmly thank its agents and those of Comilog, as well as the services of the Gabonese State, for the unfailing support, 24/7, since the end-of-year holiday period, to restore the economic backbone of Gabon on the move as quickly as possible.

an international benchmark for railways based on an efficient and contributory model with regard to populations. Setrag is a 51% subsidiary of Compagnie Minière de l’Ogooué (Comilog), itself a subsidiary of the French mining and metallurgical group Eramet. It employs 1,550 people, half of whom are distributed throughout the 24 stations of the 648 km Transgabonais line.
