UIC Launches Women in Rail in Africa Taskforce with Inaugural Webinar
The UIC is set to launch its Women in Rail in Africa Taskforce on 16 July 2025, marking a significant step toward gender inclusion across the continent’s rail sector. Chaired by Nompumelelo Sibongile Ekeke, Board Chair of South Africa’s Railway Safety Regulator, the taskforce will focus on advocacy, mentorship, and skills development. Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, this initiative aims to enhance the role of women in both the rail workforce and as passengers.
