Uganda Issues Tender for Rehabilitation and Overhaul of 300 Wagons

The Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) has issued a tender for the supply, rehabilitation and overhaul of 300 railway wagons, as part of efforts to restore fleet availability and improve freight operations.

The scope of work covers the rehabilitation and overhaul of 300 wagons, comprising 100 flat wagons for rehabilitation, 128 flat wagons for overhaul, and 72 covered wagons for overhaul. The works include structural repairs to wagon frames, underframes and bodies, addressing corrosion and deformation, as well as the conversion of 13 covered wagons into flat wagons.

Mechanical systems need to be comprehensively overhauled, including bogies, wheelsets, axles, bearings, suspension systems and braking systems such as distributor valves, brake cylinders and associated components.

Additional works include re-tyring and reprofiling of wheels, application of anti-corrosive coatings and protective paint systems and reinstatement of wagon markings. All wagons will be subject to full testing, safety certification and commissioning in accordance with UIC or equivalent international railway standards and original equipment manufacturer specifications.
