TRC Board of Directors Inspected the Old Railway Dar – Kaliua
The board of directors of the Tanzania Railway Corporation TRC has inspected the MGR railway line Dar es Salaam to Kaliua, December 2023.
TRC board chairman Mr. Ally Karavina has explained that despite the various challenges of the state of infrastructure, the railway is important in connecting the port of Dar es Salaam and neighboring countries through cargo transportation.
“We want to have more security for the vessels that pass through this route, this visit will help us to find the real condition of the route and to find solutions to the existing challenges so that this railway route will help us increase the income of the Corporation” added Mr. Carabineer.
In addition Mr. Karavina has explained that the existing plans are to rehabilitate the railway line, including the improvement of the railway embankment, the installation of concrete beams and the repair of culverts and bridges.
On his part, board member Dr. Shaban Mwinjaka, has explained that with the construction of the SGR level railway, the old railway (MGR) is still needed and has a great contribution to the transportation of passengers and cargo.
“These two railways will be supporting each other in the transportation of passengers and cargo, we cannot stop using this railway and Tanzania is not the only country where a railway of this level is still in use,” said Dr. The thief
Together with the members of the Board of Directors, the management of TRC has participated in the inspection of the infrastructure, where the Director of Infrastructure, Engineer Machibya Masanja has explained the efforts that are being made by the organization so that the railway transport service continues despite the continuous rains.
“We have a section of Kilosa – Gulwe that has been affected by rains frequently, so far the steps we have taken are to find a permanent solution where we have started with the construction of a 175 meter bridge between Godegode and Gulwe, but we are also starting the construction of dams that will help control the water to Mkondoa” said Engineer Machibya.
Through the visit aimed at inspecting the condition of the infrastructure of the former Railway (MGR) at a time when rains continue to fall in various parts of the country, the board members are also expected to arrive in Mpanda in Katavi and Kigoma regions using Kiberenge transport.
