Transnet Freight Rail Celebrates Best Achievement Of The Year On North Corridor
Transnet Freight Rail (TFR), has announced a significant achievement on its North Corridor, marking the most substantial performance in terms of volume for the current financial year in week 53.
In an unparalleled demonstration of efficiency and dedication, the North Corridor accomplished an impressive delivery of 1,413 million tonnes (mt) last week. This achievement not only sets the record for the highest volume reached this financial year but also signifies a remarkable enhancement from the previous record of 1,403mt, established in week 13.
This level of operation also establishes a new benchmark for the number of trains run within a single week during the current financial year, demonstrating TFR’s capabilities and resilience amidst challenges. Some of the performance of key flows include executing 11 chrome trains and executing 1,182mt on Export Coal for the Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT).
Theo Johnson, TFR North Corridor Acting Managing Executive, emphasised the importance of this achievement: “Week 53 marks a definitive moment for the North Corridor. This achievement is the result of the unwavering efforts of our employees and our stakeholders, both Labour and our customers, who have worked safely and relentlessly every day. We are exceedingly proud of this success. This milestone paves the way for the North Corridor to reclaim its former glory.”

A series of operational enhancements have been introduced on the North Corridor, contributing positively to the performance outcomes for this corridor. These improvements include the increased availability of rolling stock and enhanced safety measures to prevent theft and vandalism.
