The Malaba Freight Yard Takes Center Stage In Transforming Regional Logistics
In a noteworthy progression for East African rail transportation, the Honourable Kipchumba Murkomen, Cabinet Secretary of the Kenyan Ministry of Roads & Transport, led a delegation in a review of the Malaba Freight Yard located in the Kenya Railways transit warehouse in Malaba. The delegation was joined by a Ugandan team spearheaded by the Honourable Musa Echweru, CS. Ministry of Works and Transport, Uganda. The team also included PS Mr. Bageya Waiswa and a contingent from Uganda Railways, with their Managing Director, Stanley Sendegeya, at the helm. Also in attendance were Mr. Mohamed Daghar, PS, State Department for Transport, Kenya Railways MD, Philip J. Mainga EBS, and senior KR management.
This striking development is the result of fulfilling all certification requirements established by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and acquiring necessary operation licenses. The inauguration of this cutting-edge facility signals a new chapter in rail transportation, offering a broad variety of door-to-door intermodal solutions, consolidation and deconsolidation alternatives for our valued transit clients.
The hub displays an impressive stacking capacity exceeding 1,000 Teus and is outfitted with advanced terminal handling equipment that can manage both containerised and conventional cargo. Positioned strategically next to the Malaba OSBP (One Stop Border Point), this facility is poised to transform logistics operations across the region.
The Malaba Transshipment Hub is designed to serve as an interim transfer point, ensuring the smooth and effective transit of cargo to road transportation. Its impact will be particularly appreciated by clients requiring last-mile connectivity to destinations such as South Sudan, the Great Lakes Region, and Uganda.
Kenya Railways Corporation remains resolute in its pledge to provide excellent services and play a crucial role in the transformation of transportation throughout East Africa.
