South Africa: National Land Transport Act – Public Transport Subsidy Policy
Following the publication of the National Land Transport Act: Public Transport Subsidy Policy on 23 February 2024, the Department of Transport now invites comments, with submissions to be made by 31 March 2024.
The policy suggests that funding for South Africa’s public transport should transition from subsidising specific modes of transport to adopting a user-subsidy model. The government acknowledges the critical role of the transport sector in national development, with the majority of households depending on public transport for their mobility needs.
Submissions must be received by no later than 31 March 2024.
