Sitarail Strengthens Its Rolling Stock with Four New GL30-Type Locomotives
SITARAIL, a subsidiary of AGL (Africa Global Logistics), which operates the Abidjan-Ouagadougou rail network, took delivery on December 15, 2025, at the Port of Abidjan, of four new GL30 or GT26 diesel-electric locomotives. These locomotives are intended to strengthen its transport capacity and the productivity of their operations across the entire network.
These latest-generation locomotives, with a power output of approximately 3,000 horsepower and a gross tonnage of 1,500 tons, will be a major asset in improving the availability of rolling stock and the regularity of train services on the Ouagadougou-Abidjan corridor.
Equipped with computerised control systems, on-board diagnostic devices, and enhanced safety equipment, the GL30 locomotives also help reduce maintenance costs. They also offer more ergonomic and air-conditioned cabs, significantly improving working conditions for driving crews.
With the arrival of these four new locomotives, SITARAIL is taking another step in strengthening and modernising its production facilities. In terms of their impact on rail traffic, these new locomotives will allow the company to increase its service offering, particularly for private sidings, and to sustainably secure its supply chains, while also improving the rail network’s responsiveness to seasonal peaks in activity, contributing to the preservation of the road network, and reducing its carbon footprint.
