Publication of the Revised Transnet Supply Chain Management Policy
Transnet has announced in a media statement that its Board of Directors has approved revisions to the company’s Supply Chain Management (SCM) Policy, which took effect on 11 December 2023.
The updated policy aligns with all relevant laws to establish a procurement system that is fair, transparent, cost-effective, competitive, and equitable, as required by Section 51(1)(a)(iii) of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) in conjunction with Section 217 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.
The revised policy enables Transnet to distinguish between procurement aimed at operational revenue generation and the procurement of other goods and/or services for consumption. This differentiation will allow for the implementation of effective procurement mechanisms that ensure agile sourcing of goods and services crucial to the delivery of Transnet’s customer commitments.
The policy also addresses the recent issues of congestion in ports and other areas by ensuring that the maintenance of machinery, equipment, rolling stock, and railway lines is not hindered by procurement delays. The full policy document is available on Transnet’s website via the following link:
