Project Appraisal Report: Lobito Integrated Economic Corridor Development Project

The African Development Bank has issued for public disclosure the project appraisal report for the multinational Lobito Integrated Economic Corridor development project. The Lobito Corridor spans Southern and Central Africa, linking Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Zambia from the Port of Lobito to the Copperbelt region.

Before the outbreak of conflict in the region, the former Benguela Railway served as a major unifying and integrating infrastructure asset, providing one of the most economical routes for mining operations that historically supported activity across these regions.

The corridor also has significant potential as a trade route for agricultural and industrial products. Following the revitalisation of the Angola–DRC railway line through the Lobito Atlantic Railway (LAR) concession, the route presents a strong business case for interconnection with Zambia.

Recognising the corridor’s strategic importance, the three member countries have signed a joint agreement for its revitalisation and development, positioning the Lobito Corridor as a key regional transport and economic development axis.
