Port Of Cotonou: Benin Terminal Receives Four New Park Gantries
Benin Terminal, a subsidiary of Africa Global Logistics (AGL) and operator of the container terminal of the Port of Cotonou, received on 18 March 2024, at the south quay of the port of Cotonou, 4 brand new park gantries (RTG) which reinforce the current fleet consists of 12 RTGs. This new equipment, more imposing than that historically in operation, will optimize storage capacities (6 high compared to 5 high currently) and reduce processing times for loading and unloading containers at the terminal.
Thus, thanks to this new equipment, all of Benin Terminal’s customers and partners, whether they are importers, exporters or shipowners, will benefit from a better quality of service. Acquired from the Finnish manufacturer and constructor of lifting and handling equipment Konecranes, for a total cost of 6.650 billion CFA francs (approximately 10 million euros), this new equipment, at the cutting edge of technology, will significantly impact the operational efficiency of the terminal, now bringing to 16 units the number of park gantries operating at Benin Terminal.
“With more than €216 million in investments already made by the end of 2023, Bénin Terminal aims to become a true regional logistics hub of growth for Niger, Mali, Burkina-Faso and Nigeria. To achieve this, the company is committed to continuing its investment program and continuing to work for the modernization and development of port activities at the Port of Cotonou. We are mobilized to be the reference partner and a preferred port player for all our customers and partners. We will always remain committed to the ongoing quest for operational excellence in the service of users,” declared Fabrice TURE, General Director of Bénin Terminal.
The acquisition of these 4 new RTG gantry cranes is part of a major investment program which will allow Benin Terminal to provide the port of Cotonou, by the end of 2024, with a new Quay gantry (STS) and in 2026, 6 new RTGs and 3 quay gantries (STS).
