New Leadership Appointed at Guinean Chamber of Mines

The Guinean Chamber of Mines (CMG) held its Joint General Assembly on 30 June 2025 in Conakry, where a new leadership team was elected. Karifa Condé, Director General of Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée (CBG), was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors. He is joined by Mamadou Keita (Société Minière AMC) as First Vice President, Xu Yankny (SPIC) as Second Vice President, and Céline Wazni (UMS Group) as Treasurer.

The leadership transition follows the tenure of Ismaël Diakité, under whom the CMG consolidated its position as a key intermediary between mining stakeholders and public authorities.

The session included contributions from government officials and international partners, underlining the strategic role of mining in Guinea’s development. The Ministers of Mines and Geology, Labour and Civil Service, and Environment and Sustainable Development reiterated support for the CMG and called for strengthened collaboration in ecological transition, social transformation, and sustainable growth.

Representatives from the United Nations and the World Bank Group also expressed continued commitment to transparency, good governance, and joint development initiatives.

Founded in 1997, the CMG currently has 77 active members and remains the principal employers’ union in Guinea’s formal mining sector. Its core mission is to defend member interests and contribute to the country’s economic and social development.
