Mozambique North–South Railway Project Expected to be presented in March 2026

The Government of Mozambique is preparing to present the construction project for a proposed north–south railway line, with an estimated investment value of US$7.2 billion.

All preliminary studies have been completed, including the evaluation of route variations. The project is now pending formal approval of the concept by the Government, after which it will proceed to market to mobilise financing.

The first phase of the railway is expected to extend approximately 1,500 kilometres, creating a continuous rail corridor linking the northern and southern regions of the country.

The project forms part of a broader multimodal infrastructure strategy aimed at strengthening resilience in the transport network by integrating rail, road and maritime systems.
