Monitoring Committee Holds First Session on Mbalam–Kribi Railway Project

On 10 July 2025, the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Masséna Ngallè Bibéhé, chaired the first session of the Monitoring Committee for the partnership contract relating to the railway line between Mbalam and the Port of Kribi. The committee was created on 6 March 2025 and includes representatives from various member administrations.

The partnership involves the private entities Bestway Finance and Autsino and covers the financing, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of a railway line with double tracks—540 kilometres on the Cameroonian side and 149 kilometres on the Congolese side. The agreement was signed on 25 February 2022 in Yaoundé. The project is expected to generate over 3 billion CFA francs for the national economy and create nearly 10,000 jobs.

The Monitoring Committee is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the contract, ensuring compliance with agreed objectives, evaluating the development plan and investment programme, and reviewing the performance of the private partner. It is also tasked with facilitating dispute resolution and conducting necessary audits.
