Mauritania Secures Major Funding for Transport Corridor Rehabilitation
Mauritania’s national development strategy has received a significant financial boost, with the Arab Coordination Group pledging US$2 billion in development funding at a high-level roundtable in Vienna. The funding will be allocated between 2025 and 2030 to support a range of priority sectors, including transport infrastructure.
Key among the transport-related projects is the rehabilitation of the Nouakchott–Nouadhibou and Rosso–Boghé corridors. These corridors are considered vital to enhancing trade and regional connectivity. Improvements to these routes are expected to facilitate more efficient movement of goods and people within Mauritania and across borders, contributing to the country’s broader economic integration goals.
The commitment aligns with a broader regional strategy to develop resilient transport networks that support industrialisation, trade, and sustainable development. The Arab Coordination Group, which includes institutions such as the Islamic Development Bank and the OPEC Fund for International Development, has prioritised infrastructure investment as a lever for inclusive growth and economic transformation in Africa.
