Malawi’s RESTORE Project Could See Upgrades To Sena Line Enhancing Beira Port Access
Malawi’s Resilient and Strategic Transport Operational Enhancement Project (RESTORE) is mostly focused on road improvements, particularly rehabilitating the M1 and feeder roads in the Lower Shire Valley. The project also seeks to bolster government capacity to weave climate resilience into the transport asset management lifecycle.
In addition, RESTORE includes the requirement for a feasibility study on the Sena railway line, with a specific focus on the Makhanga-Bangula section.
Consultants are being sought to conduct a detailed feasibility study of this segment, which spans approximately 21 km. The scope of the study, to be detailed during its preparatory phase, is expected to address current accessibility challenges affecting both rail and road transport. Its objective is to enhance the vital railway connection between the Sena line and the Beira port, with the potential to consider the establishment of a rail station or inland port at Bangula.
