Lilayi City: Rail-Connected Industrial and Residential Development in Lusaka

At the Land-Linked Zambia Conference and Exhibition, Railways Africa Magazine editor Phillippa Dean spoke with Gareth Zebron, Marketing representative at Lilayi City.

Lilayi City is a unique 400-hectare mixed-use development located just eight kilometres south of Lusaka’s central business district. The project features light industrial and commercial land adjacent to the North-South rail corridor, separated by a greenbelt from the residential and lifestyle areas.

Gareth discusses the project’s progress, including regulatory approvals, the sale of the first railway siding plot, and plans for a dry port, freight logistics facilities, and a passenger terminal. With land available for developers at competitive rates, Lilayi City aims to create a fully integrated, intermodal hub supporting both freight and passenger rail services.
