Leone Rock Metal Group Successfully Shipped CTC’s First Batch of Bauxite
On July 10, 2023, Leone Rock Metal Group (LRMG) achieved a significant milestone by successfully shipping the first cargo shipment of bauxite from CTC Mining Co., Ltd. with a complete tonnage of 175,400 tons. This momentous event marked the first collaboration between two mining companies in Sierra Leone, with the objective of driving economic development in the country.
LRMG and CTC Mining Co., Ltd. had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on March 17, 2023, paving the way for this groundbreaking partnership. The partnership involved sharing the rail and port infrastructure operated by Kingho Railway and Port, a subsidiary of LRMG. This arrangement not only fostered cooperation between the two mining companies but also exhibited LRMG’s commitment to encouraging multiple users of the rail and port facility.
The shipping operation commenced on June 11, 2023, with the loading of the first batch of 50 tons of bauxite at the company’s stock yard in Pepel. The process involved meticulous planning of port storage, coordinated arrangements for sea freight backyards, and the chartering of barges. Despite encountering several challenges along the way, the team at LRMG and CTC Mining Co., Ltd. demonstrated their professional knowledge, innovative thinking, and determination to overcome obstacles efficiently.
