LAMATA to Receive 24 Additional Coaches for Lagos Red Line by Q3 2026

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority confirms that, as part of its long-term strategy to enhance capacity, comfort and service reliability, additional rolling stock is expected to be delivered and operationalised by the third quarter of 2026.

The acquisition will comprise three train sets, each consisting of eight coaches, bringing a total of 24 additional coaches to strengthen the existing fleet and improve the passenger experience along the Red Line corridor.

The announcement follows passenger complaints regarding discomfort on the Oyingbo–Agbado service, attributed to technical issues affecting the air conditioning system.

In the immediate term, technical and engineering teams have been deployed to diagnose and address the root cause of the cooling system failure. Restoration works are underway, with efforts focused on returning the affected coaches to optimal operating condition as quickly as possible.
