Integrated Moçâmedes Bay Development Project Set for October 2025 Opening

The Integrated Development Project for the Moçâmedes Bay is scheduled to be inaugurated at the beginning of October 2025. The announcement followed a working visit to Namibe by the Minister of Transport, Ricardo Viegas de Abreu, accompanied by the Provincial Governor of Namibe, Archer Mangueira.

During the visit, the delegation inspected the project’s main infrastructure, noting the completion of the new jetty at the Sacomar Mineral Terminal and the final works on the new Container Terminal. The programme also included an inspection of the future headquarters of the Namibe Port Company and the refurbishment of the Cine Estúdio, which forms part of the project’s social responsibility initiatives.

The project has been confirmed to meet technical requirements and is viewed as a key component of the Government’s efforts to improve living conditions and promote sustainable development in the southern region of Angola.

In a separate development on 22 September, the Port of Namibe hosted a visit from Bureau Veritas, a multinational specialising in inspection, certification, and laboratory testing services. The visit focused on strengthening cooperation and conformity assessment of port infrastructure.

Bureau Veritas emphasised the importance of implementing the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code) and classifying and certifying the port’s equipment in line with international safety and quality standards. The certification of the equipment and main infrastructure of the Port Company of Namibe was verified as part of the visit.

This initiative forms part of the port’s ongoing efforts to align operations with international standards of maritime safety, quality, and efficiency, with the aim of improving competitiveness in the logistics corridor of southern Angola and the SADC region.
