Ghana Manganese Company Pursues Public-Private Partnership for Rail Development

Ghana Manganese Company (GMC) is seeking a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with the Government of Ghana to develop a dedicated rail line aimed at reducing haulage distance, lowering operational costs, and improving road safety.

The proposal was presented during a high-level engagement between the Ghana Chamber of Mines leadership and GMC management at Nsuta on 17 July 2025. The meeting formed part of the Chamber’s leadership outreach programme to better understand the operational realities of its members and advocate effectively on their behalf.

The proposed rail line would reduce the current 93-kilometre road haulage route to the port to 63 kilometres, delivering economic and environmental benefits. GMC emphasised that collaboration with the government is critical to realising the rail project, noting that a PPP model is the preferred approach.

The Chamber indicated that rail connectivity is a top priority and committed to engaging key stakeholders, including the Ghana Railway Authority, the Ministry of Transport, and the Chinese Ambassador, given ongoing work with contractor Armandi.
