Gambia Integrated Transport Master Plan
The Government of the Republic of The Gambia, in a significant move towards enhancing its transportation infrastructure, has recently received a Grant from the African Development Bank. This funding is earmarked for the ambitious development of a Climate Resilient Integrated Transport Master Plan (CR-ITMP) for the period 2025-2050. A portion of this grant will be allocated to consultancy services, signifying a major step in the nation’s commitment to sustainable development.
Central to this initiative is the Banjul Port 4th Expansion Project, conceived by the Government of Gambia (GoTG) and the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA). This project aims to elevate The Gambia’s trade capabilities by boosting port efficiency, modernizing facilities, implementing a digitalization strategy, and refining maintenance and tariff systems to maximize revenue generation. The Gambian Government approved the Banjul Port 4th Expansion Project in mid-August 2023.
The overarching goal of the CR-ITMP is to develop a robust transportation framework resilient to climate challenges, adopting a Corridor Approach. This comprehensive plan will encompass various transport sub-sectors such as roads, river, air, rail, and maritime. It will align with the identified investment priorities in the Rf-NDP 2023-2027, including other strategic imperatives. Furthermore, the plan should consider the maintenance of infrastructure assets and anticipate resources from the government, private sector and development partners for the next 25 years and beyond – up to 2050.
The Ministry of Transport, Works & Infrastructure (MoTWI) is currently inviting eligible consultants to express their interest in contributing to this transformative project. This invitation extends to firms with relevant experience and capabilities in similar projects. Consultants are encouraged to present their qualifications and may form joint ventures to enhance their eligibility.
This project represents a significant stride in The Gambia’s journey towards a sustainable and resilient transportation infrastructure, aligning with broader global efforts to combat the challenges posed by climate change.
The deadline for expressing interest is set for February 14th, 2024, at 4:00 PM Banjul Time. Consultants have the option to submit their Expressions of Interest (EOIs) in PDF format via email.
