Ethiopian Railways Corporation Hosts National Railway Business Investment Summit
The Ethiopian Railways Corporation (ERC) held the National Railway Business Investment Summit on 21 October 2025 at the Skylight Hotel to attract investors and forge partnerships for projects aimed at advancing the country’s railway sector.
State Minister of Transport and Logistics, Ato Denge Boru, emphasised the need for a cost-effective and modern railway system that connects industries, enhances capacity, and supports world-class logistics services. He added that a favourable investment environment has been established to encourage participation in the sector.
ERC Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Hlina Belachew, stated that the Corporation’s vision is to position Ethiopia as the logistics hub of the Horn of Africa through an integrated national railway network that strengthens regional trade and cooperation. She described the ongoing railway projects as symbols of national hope and prosperity, underscoring the importance of strong partnerships to realise this vision.
ERC Board Chairman, Engineer Berhanu Tesfaye, highlighted the significance of public–private partnerships in railway development, describing the network as a national asset that should generate sustainable economic growth and long-term social benefits rather than debt.
The African Union Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy, Mrs Lerato Matabome, stressed the importance of pan-African cooperation in building a transcontinental railway network. She said Ethiopia’s efforts serve as an example of how African nations can achieve infrastructure self-sufficiency, adding that railways are a key driver for achieving the continent’s development goals.
