Egypt’s Soon-to-be-Inaugurated Misr Railway Station
According to Egypt’s State Information Services, Egypt’s Transport Minister Kamel El Wazir and a parliamentary delegation have inspected the soon-to-be-inaugurated Misr Railway Station in Giza’s Bashteel district, which is touted as the largest railway station in Egypt. The station, located strategically between Ramses and Giza railway stations, is designed to facilitate movement on four main axes and connect with various transportation means including railways, the metro’s third line, monorail, and the BRT on Ring Road. The main station, with a footprint of 31,000 square meters, will feature four platforms and six lines, including shunting and terminating lines. Additionally, there will be a 250-vehicle capacity garage, a multi-storey garage for 1,000 vehicles, and administrative offices. The new station, three times larger than the Ramses Station, is designed to ease traffic and will be linked with Cairo’s various transit systems. The design takes inspiration from Egyptian heritage, featuring a glass pyramid and obelisks.
