Egypt’s First Automotive Logistics Terminal Launches

SCAT, Egypt’s first automotive logistics terminal, launches its activities through a consortium formed by Africa Global Logistics, Nippon Yusen Kaisha and Toyota Tsusho Corporation.

Africa Global Logistics (AGL), a major player in transport and logistics in Africa, and its partners Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK), a global expert in maritime transport and automotive terminal management, and Toyota Tsusho Corporation, a general trading company within the Toyota Group with strengths in automobile-related businesses and operations in Africa, announce the official opening of Suez Canal Automotive Terminal (SCAT), the first finished-vehicle logistics terminal in Egypt. The start of operations on July 1, 2025, marks a turning point in the management of automotive flows in Egypt and the region, through a strategic joint venture between three international leaders in transport, logistics and international trade.

Located at the northern entrance to the Suez Canal, the SCAT terminal can simultaneously accommodate two large car carriers and a scalable storage capacity of 2,550 vehicles on 21.2 hectares in the initial stage of operation and up to 10,000 vehicles in the future.

Equipped with advanced technological infrastructure, the platform is designed to support the import, export and transshipment of vehicles, strengthening Egypt’s position as a key logistics hub in North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean.

As part of this partnership, AGL leverages its expertise developed across Africa to offer innovative and sustainable solutions to players in the automotive industry. In collaboration with NYK and Toyota Tsusho, the SCAT terminal will be operated for 30 years, with the goal of processing up to 50,000 vehicles per year upon launch.

“The launch of SCAT is a major opportunity for the continent, particularly for Egypt and the sub-region. It will make it possible to respond effectively to the expected growth of the regional automotive market and illustrate our common commitment to supporting local economic development. We are very proud to co-create this terminal with such partners.” — Olivier De Noray, CEO of Ports & Terminals AGL

By combining their expertise, AGL, NYK, and Toyota Tsusho aim to support Egypt’s economic development and offer new opportunities to players in the regional automotive sector.
