Egypt: Project To Modernise Signalling Under The Cairo-Alexandria Trade Logistics Development Project
The Ministry of Transport of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Egyptian National Railways (ENR) have issued an amendment to the previously launched Expression of Interest (EOI) dated 14 and 15 December 2023. This amendment pertains to consulting services for the “Integrator and Works Supervisor” of a “Single Responsibility Contract for Plant, Design, Supply, Installation, Factory Acceptance Testing, and Testing & Commissioning of a new Signalling System,” including all related components on the Cairo-Alexandria Trade Logistics Development Project (CATLDP), loan IBRD-94460 – divided into three separate lots.
ENR has secured financing from the World Bank for the Cairo-Alexandria Trade Logistics Development Project and intends to allocate a portion of these funds towards consulting services. The consulting services encompass the supervision of the project to modernise the signalling and communications systems and track works under a single responsibility contract for engineering, procurement, construction, design, supply, training, and maintenance services for a period of five years. This includes the signalling and communications system, power supply system, and civil works within the project framework for the following three lines, referred to as “lots”:
•LOT 1: Establishing a single link from the dry port on the 6th of October to Beni Salama station on the Al-Manashi line, spanning 68 km. This also includes renewing, enhancing, and developing the signalling systems along 67 km from the Al-Maraziq/Al-Wahat line.
•LOT 2: Upgrading the Bashteel – Itay El Baroud Section (117 km). This involves dualising the track between Bashteel and El Itihad, creating approximately 90 km of new track, upgrading the single track between El Itihad and Itay El Baroud, selectively upgrading the existing track, and installing new signalling systems in both sections from Bashteel to Itay El Baroud.
•LOT 3: Upgrading the El Itihad – Al-tafaroa – “Al-Nahda Station” Section (96 km), including track upgrades and signalling modernisation.
The Egyptian National Railways is now inviting eligible consulting firms to indicate their interest in providing these services by 10:00 am on 22 July 2024. For more information, please refer to the opportunities section of Railways Africa Magazine.
