Côte D’ivoire Terminal Receives Five New Gantry Cranes to Boost Operational Efficiency

Côte d’Ivoire Terminal, operator of the second container terminal in the Port of Abidjan, announced the reception on 10 August 2023 of five new gantry cranes representing a value of around FCFA 6 billion. This new delivery, which follows those of June and August 2022, brings the number of gantry cranes (RTG) to 18.

These new gantry cranes have a larger capacity, able to store nine containers on one line as opposed to seven previously. They will speed up container loading and unloading operations for both imports and exports, increase turnaround and improve fleet management. This will lead to reduced waiting times and more fluid port operations.

In addition to their operational advantages, these latest-generation 100% electric gantry cranes will also allow Côte d’Ivoire Terminal to reduce the environmental impact of its activities while maximising the energy efficiency of its facilities.

“We are delighted with the arrival of these new machines, which will really enable us to increase our handling rates, both on the container yard and ship operations. In addition, these new, all-electric gantry cranes consolidate our eco-responsible approach, which recently received the Green Terminal label” enthused Koen De Backker, Managing Director of Côte d’Ivoire Terminal.

“Thanks to this latest-generation equipment, the Port of Abidjan will not only improve the performance of its operations, thus reinforcing its role as a catalyst for the Ivorian and sub-regional economy, but also its position as a leading port in compliance with international standards. We therefore congratulate Côte d’Ivoire Terminal for following through on its commitments and we encourage it to continue its investments“, said Mr Hien Sie, Managing Director of the Autonomous Port of Abidjan.

Receiving this equipment is another important step in the investment programme to improve logistics services in Côte d’Ivoire and countries in the sub-region. Côte d’Ivoire Terminal is pursuing its equipment acquisition process with the delivery of more machinery between September and October 2023.

We are really proud of these new acquisitions, which clearly demonstrate our ambition to provide the Port of Abidjan with an infrastructure capable of supporting the growth of the Ivorian economy. This new equipment is part of the implementation of our investment programme to improve the performances of the Port of Abidjan”, said a delighted Olivier De Noray, Managing Director of Ports and Concessions at AGL.
