On 10 March, the African Development Bank Group’s Infrastructure and Urban Development Department (PICU) announced the contract award for the Detailed Service Planning and Update of the Detailed Design Study for the Rail & Road-Based Mass Rapid Transit System on Jogoo Road Corridor – Nairobi, Kenya (BRT Line 4 – Phase 1).

The contract was awarded to the LOGIT-ITDP-ITEC Consortium, comprising consultants from USA, Brazil, and Kenya, for a total value of $500,000 USD. The consultancy will be conducted in two stages:

  1. First Stage – Includes demand assessment, concept plan, service plan, and impact analysis to provide a preliminary appraisal of the system.
  2. Second Stage – Focuses on the preparation of detailed infrastructure plans, including physical designs and construction cost estimates.

Key deliverables include an Inception Report, Corridor Demand Analysis, Concept Plan, Service Plan, Financial Analysis, and Infrastructure Plan. The study will also incorporate land use planning along the corridor, station access considerations, and Transit-Oriented Development (ToD).

The selection process followed a Quality and Cost-Based Selection (QCBS) method, with six candidates submitting proposals. LOGIT-ITDP-ITEC received the highest final score, ranking first in the evaluation process.
