Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée Takes Delivery of Rolling Stock

The Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée (CBG) has taken delivery of new rolling stock in Kamsar, including a fully equipped passenger train, marking a significant step in the company’s efforts to support community development alongside its core mining operations.

Since 1973, CBG has maintained a parallel passenger and goods transport service between Sangarédi and Kamsar, stopping at key stations such as Boké, Khorira, and Kolaboui. In recent years, the condition of the passenger train had deteriorated significantly, prompting the company to seek a complete replacement under the framework of the national railway infrastructure pooling initiative.

With the support of the National Agency for Mine Infrastructure (ANAIM) and other industrial rail users, CBG has acquired new rail assets designed to meet the mobility needs of local populations and support the movement of goods.

The delivered equipment includes:

10 flat wagons for transporting containers, heavy loads, and industrial equipment;

10 ballast wagons to support railway maintenance operations;

4 modern passenger coaches, each with a 60-seat capacity and onboard toilet facilities;

1 baggage wagon, dedicated to the transportation of goods.

The passenger coaches are also equipped with accessibility features for persons with reduced mobility. A complete set of spare parts was included in the delivery to ensure operational efficiency and reduce downtime.

This investment totalled USD 4.2 million and aligns with the Guinean government’s infrastructure-sharing policy aimed at increasing efficiency and extending the benefits of industrial transport networks to the wider population.

According to CBG, the relaunch of the passenger train service will contribute to easing congestion on road networks and support national climate goals by providing a modern, reliable, and lower-emission transport alternative. The company also emphasised that collaborative, peaceful engagement between communities and mining operators remains essential to ensuring shared benefits and long-term development.

The Boké Railway Directorate views the return of this passenger service as part of a broader commitment to improving local mobility and strengthening sustainable development outcomes across the region.

Supporting National Strategy Through Infrastructure

CBG and its partners have positioned this initiative as a strategic investment that integrates industrial performance, technological modernisation, and social responsibility. The project reflects the broader ambitions of the Guinean government’s development strategy, which aims to foster inclusive infrastructure growth in line with national priorities.
