CFB, LAR and Partners Launch Rail Safety Week 2025
CFB, LAR and partners, including the Angola Railway Technicians Association (ATECFA), engaged with communities across the Lobito Railway Corridor provinces to raise awareness and save lives.
From 6 to 11 October, within the framework of the SADC recommendation, Angola’s railway operators and partners launched a joint annual Rail Safety Week campaign to raise awareness about the risks of unsafe behaviour around railway tracks and property.
CFB and LAR employees interacted with primary schools, motorists, motorcyclists and other community members across the corridor to highlight the dangers of trespassing and ignoring signals at crossings, actions that result in devastating consequences.
Meanwhile, CFL (Luanda Railway) also ran its own campaign, aligned with SADC’s general view. It is the first time that all three Angolan railway operators have participated in such an initiative, all encouraged by the Angola Railway Technicians Association (ATECFA).
The activities included handing out leaflets and hosting a drawing competition on railway transport, involving students from primary schools located near railway infrastructure. A special one-hour radio programme dedicated to railway safety issues was broadcast on a local commercial radio station in Luanda. It was a concentrated week of safety education focused on the importance of making safe choices when driving or walking near railway tracks and trains.
