CAMRAIL Marks the 8th Edition of Railway Safety Day under the Theme: Artificial Intelligence for Railway Safety – Opportunities and Challenges

CAMRAIL, the concessionaire of the Cameroon railway network, held activities across its nearly 1,000 km rail system from 18 to 20 November 2025 to mark the 8th edition of Railway Safety Day, under the theme: Artificial Intelligence for Railway Safety: Opportunities and Challenges.

In the Central, Eastern, and Northern parts of the network, awareness sessions were primarily conducted with staff to further embed safety as a daily reflex. In alignment with the theme, teams also presented the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence and its potential impact on rail operations.

Meanwhile, over a thousand visitors were welcomed at the Bassa canteen during open house days, which showcased the expertise and unique competencies of the various departments.

The highlight of the event was held at the Bessengue cinema hall, featuring presentations, awards and recognitions bestowed upon both employees and neighbouring communities.

“Our priority is to nurture a culture of safety in our day-to-day operations. Artificial intelligence can become a powerful ally to detect early warning signals, enhance incident analysis, and support decision-making. However, its value lies in the quality of data, strict procedures, and above all, the vigilance and discipline of every team member,” stated Hélène-Michèle Ndougsa Mbang, Safety Management Coordinator at CAMRAIL.

Through conferences, demonstrations, and interactive discussions, CAMRAIL spotlighted how AI can enhance rail safety and service quality, while addressing the challenges associated with integrating such technologies into existing systems.

This initiative reaffirms CAMRAIL’s commitment to innovation and its unwavering dedication to the safety of passengers, employees, and local communities, in line with international standards and its corporate social responsibility.
