Cameroon–Italy Rail Partnership Discussions Continue
The Minister of Transport of Cameroon, Jean Ernest Masséna Ngallè Bibéh, received the Ambassador of Italy, Filippo Scammacca, and Vincenzo Dagostinos, CEO of the Italian company Avantgarde, for a meeting focused on rail transport development. Also present were the Director General of Cameroon Railways (CAMRAIL), representatives from the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT), and officials from the Ministry of Transport.
The meeting is part of ongoing discussions initiated in 2022 regarding the acquisition of railway rolling stock for CAMRAIL. Key topics included progress on a joint project to establish a railway equipment assembly unit in Cameroon, officially submitted to the Ministry of Transport on 16 April 2024. The proposed partnership involves the purchase and refurbishment of passenger coaches and locomotives that are innovative, cost-effective, and compliant with environmental and safety standards.
Discussions also covered financial arrangements, implementation timelines, technology specifications, and the potential for skills transfer within the framework of Cameroon–Italy bilateral cooperation.
