Calabash Freight Expands Operations Across TAZARA and SNCC Networks
During the Land-Linked Zambia Conference and Exhibition, Railways Africa Magazine editor Phillippa Dean caught up with Nimon Zulu, MBA, from Calabash Freight Limited.
In this brief interview, Nimon provides an update on Calabash Freight’s activities, including their operations on the TAZARA network and the SNCC network in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where they are actively moving zinc from Lubumbashi to Kapiri Mposhi.
The discussion touches on challenges with rolling stock capacity, the company’s need for potential investment to expand operations, and how Calabash Freight is managing despite ongoing infrastructure issues and derailments. Nimon also shares plans for a new multi-user facility in Kapiri, aimed at supporting nearby mining operations and improving cargo handling.
Commodities currently being transported include zinc, copper, sulphur, and merchant goods from Dar es Salaam into Kapiri.
