Angola Looks To The Promotion Of Railway Corridors For Tourist Routes
The Ministers of Transport, Ricardo Viegas D’Abreu, and Tourism, Márcio de Jesus Lopes Daniel, held a working meeting on Tuesday, July 9, in the meeting room of the Port of Luanda.
At the end of the session, the ministries defined an Action Plan, which should be implemented immediately, focusing on various aspects.
One of the key points discussed was the creation of a joint team to develop the STOP OVER Angola program, in collaboration with TAAG and INFOTUR. This initiative aims to enhance Angola’s tourism appeal and make it a more attractive destination for international travellers.
Additionally, the ministries planned the 2nd Ministerial Meeting of African Ministers of Tourism and Transport, to be held in 2025. This meeting aims to foster greater collaboration and strategic planning between the two sectors across the continent.
The Action Plan also includes entering into a Memorandum of Understanding for the joint sharing of statistical information between the transport and tourism sectors. This agreement will enhance data transparency and support informed decision-making.
In terms of infrastructure, the ministries emphasised the importance of certifying priority airports. The certification process is set to be completed for Catumbela by November 2024, Mukanka by the end of 2024, and Namibe in 2025. This certification will ensure that these airports meet international standards and can support increased tourist traffic.
The promotion of railway corridors for tourist routes was another significant focus. The Lobito-Luau and Mocamedes-Lubango routes were highlighted as key areas for development, aiming to provide scenic and convenient travel options for tourists exploring Angola.
Finally, the ministries discussed accelerating the resumption of the southern Angola air hub. This effort will facilitate the transit of aircraft to regional destinations from Lubango, enhancing connectivity and supporting regional tourism growth.
These coordinated efforts between the Ministries of Transport and Tourism are expected to significantly boost Angola’s tourism industry, making the country a more accessible and appealing destination for travellers.
