Abidjan Sustainable and Integrated Urban Mobility Project (PMDIA)

The Government of Côte d’Ivoire has secured €200 million in financing from the Islamic Development Bank for the Abidjan Sustainable and Integrated Urban Mobility Project (PMDIA). The initiative aims to strengthen access to economic and social opportunities, improve public health outcomes through better mobility, and enhance the efficiency of public transport along Boulevard Latrille in Cocody.

The project consists of five components: civil engineering works, consulting services, fleet acquisition and skills development, intelligent transportation systems, and environmental and social measures. A central feature will be a nine-kilometre Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor designed for up to 175,000 passengers daily. The development will reduce travel times to as little as 45 minutes during peak hours, improve bus speeds by 5 km/h, and cut carbon emissions by approximately 10,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually.

Procurement will be undertaken through International Competitive Bidding (ICB) restricted to IsDB Member Countries and will cover the construction of three multimodal interchange hubs, a new SOTRA depot in Bingerville, and the BRT infrastructure itself. Fifty articulated gas buses and intelligent transport systems will also be acquired. Consulting services will focus on capacity building, design and supervision of works, and environmental and financial audits.

AMUGA (Greater Abidjan Urban Mobility Authority) will oversee project implementation in partnership with AGEROUTE, which will provide technical assistance for the BRT works.
