A Move Toward Mechanised Track Maintenance For Luanda Railways
On 16 April, the Luanda Railway’s track maintenance capabilities were enhanced through the acquisition of a new ballast regulating machine, part of a recapitalisation initiative by the Executive. The handover ceremony took place at the Bungo main station, led by Dr. Manuel António KandaKanda, President of the Board of Directors, alongside Executive Directors Manuel Lourenço and Luzia Cravid, and other company and ANTT representatives.
The machine, crucial for maintaining the railway line by automating the levelling of ballast, which was previously done manually, was supplied by LEI-JUAN-CA Construção Limitada following a competitive tender process. The event featured a demonstration of the machine’s functions and the signing of the provisional delivery terms in the company’s main meeting room. Additionally, ten CFL technicians received training certificates for operating and maintaining the new equipment. Dr. KandaKanda highlighted the machine’s importance and urged the newly trained technicians to use it responsibly to support the Infrastructure Department’s efforts.
